MAC Address Lookup
Normalize MAC addresses, resolve vendor OUI, and inspect multicast and administration bits.
Accepts colon, hyphen, or plain hex formats (e.g. 001122334455).
What is MAC Address Lookup?
MAC address lookup normalizes layer-2 addresses and resolves the IEEE OUI vendor prefix — useful for inventory, rogue device checks, and switch CAM investigations.
How it works
Enter a MAC in common formats (colon, hyphen, Cisco). PacketWizard normalizes the address, inspects local/multicast bits, and resolves the vendor OUI when known.
Common issues
Randomized MACs on phones
Modern clients often use locally administered random MACs on Wi-Fi. Vendor lookup may show privacy randomization rather than the device OEM.
Frequently asked questions
Is a MAC address a public identifier on the internet?
No. MACs are link-local. Routers do not forward them across the public internet; your public IP is what remote services see.
